The project aims to ensure that 5505 pregnant and women in reproductive age will have access to and make use of quality maternal health services, in South Omo Zone: Wub Ari, Dasenech, and Nyangatom of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR), Ethiopia.
The project will work within the existing governmental health system and in line with the national maternal health plans and SDG 3, health, to reduce the maternal mortality.
Essential interventions will be:
Strengthening health care system (Human capacity building of more than 1000 health workers, and ensure availability of essential medical equipment)
Community engagement and education (320 Women Development Army and Health Extensions Workers will create awareness and mobilize local community to focus on family planning and make use of maternal health services available, and advocacy)
Infrastructure development (establish Maternity Waiting Village, strengthen referral system and network between local stakeholders and woreda-level health officials, ensure that local government will take over project activities by allocating budget and continue to train the health staff)
