MA- Empowering Illiterate People in Bong County, Liberia

This project will empower 750 illiterate people in Bong County through learning circles for reading, writing and numerical skills (functional literacy) followed by a first cycle of Village, Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) and reading circles. The project will contribute to lifelong learning and strengthened economic opportunities. To be able to participate in economic activities and to decide on how and in what direction to develop, literacy, numeracy and life-skills are essential. In Liberia, 48% of women and 25% men in the age 15-49 years are not able to read and write, while little or no financial facilities are available in rural areas. By facilitating adult literacy circles in combination with establishing saving and loan associations community members will be equipped to be a part of society and plan their own development.
