The project aims to ensure that “students complete basic education as resilient, lifelong learners well prepared for a good life in Nepal”. In order to achieve this, the project will select and collaborate with a local municipality that is willing to co- fund especially for educational resources for each classroom or school. At first, a step 1 curriculum based on learner centered approach for teacher training ECEC will be developed. This approach will be implemented in targeted public schools with the chosen municipality by training teachers, headmasters and coordinators. Additionally, a monitoring system to assess the learner centered practices in the classroom will be developed in collaboration with the local municipality. Teachers, headmasters and coordinators along with municipality officials and ECEC staffs will be trained on the use of monitoring tool. Later, data obtained from the tool will be used to revise the proposed interventions.
Project ensure the engagement and involvement of authorities, School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent Teacher Association (PTA) by building their capacity on leadership, parenting (ICDP) and advocacy skills (understanding the roles, rights and responsibilities of parents). The project also aims to facilitate the meeting between parents, SMCs and local municipality to advocate for quality education.
Further, schools and teachers will receive support in various aspects through school consultation to implement learner centered education. Such as continuous guidance on School Improvement Plan (SIP) and SMC talk using Knoster Model of Change, guidance on physical environment and education resources/materials in classroom will be provided. Workshops on daily planning and scheduling, small group teaching, Continuous Assessment System (CAS), circle time, theme teaching will be conducted.
