BS – Trauma Healing and Reconciliation in Burundi

The objective of the program is to enable national cohesion through individual and institutional healing, reconciliation and increased collaboration between actors in the field. The program builds capacity in churches, SOS Villages, and government institutions (police, army, veteran’s institution, and prison authority) to play a role in reconciliation by strengthening their capacities in the field of trauma healing and reconciliation. Partners conduct healing groups and trainings for their communities/constituents, using trained volunteers and staff. The program has separate modules for adults, children, army and police. During the third phase from 2023-2027, the project will focus on expanding and strengthening institutional capacity and ownership, whereby the prison authority is a newly inducted partner. In addition, the project will continue its dialogue with the national Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) with the aim of establishing a collaboration agreement followed by training and implementation.
