About Us
Digni was founded in 1983 to manage a cooperation agreement between its member organisations and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
As an umbrella organisation, Digni is owned by its member organisations and exists because of their efforts to make a difference for local communities.
As part of the agreement with Norad (from May 2023 to April 2027), Digni manages an annual grant of approximately 202 million NOK (Norwegian Kroner). These funds are distributed through Digni’s members to development projects and initiatives run by more than 70 local partners in over 30 countries around the world. The common goal is to uphold human dignity and ensure that no one is left behind.
Digni’s fundamental motivation is to uphold the biblical principles of human dignity, justice for all, compassion, and stewardship of God’s creation. As part of the global church’s calling to diakonia, Digni contributes to the United Nations Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda.
Digni’s vision is a peaceful and transformed world where human dignity is upheld, poverty is eliminated, justice prevails, no one is left behind; a world where there is responsible stewardship of creation and climate justice succeeds.
Digni’s member organisations and their partners are independent organisations with their own long-term strategies based on mission and development cooperation. However, as part of the Digni fellowship, all contribute as well to fulfilling the Digni vision.
