Locally led – globally connected: New overarching strategy to strengthen Digni’s role in development cooperation

Digni has adopted a new overarching strategy for the organization’s future work. The strategy was approved by the General Assembly on April 30, following a broad and inclusive process involving the member organizations.

Digni’s vision is: “A peaceful, just and transformed world where human dignity is upheld and no one is left behind.”

“We have had a strong and inclusive process, and we have united around a strategy that clarifies what Digni’s contribution to development work should be in the years ahead. ‘Locally led – globally connected’ captures well how we want to work going forward in order to realize this vision,” says Chair of the Board Dag-Håkon Eriksen.

The strategy highlights the following key ambitions for the organization’s diaconal work:

  • Human dignity for all
  • Inclusion and empowerment
  • Transformation and justice
  • Locally led, globally connected
  • Sharing of resources

“With this strategy, we now have a solid framework that provides direction for the continued work on a strategic action plan. Together with our members, we have an extensive network of local churches and civil society actors, and we are committed to equal partnerships that promote local ownership and priorities. This gives us both an understanding of local contexts and the opportunity to work long-term with people and groups at risk of marginalization. Our expertise in religion and development is an important contribution to Norwegian development cooperation,” says Digni’s Secretary General, Hjalmar Bø.
